I started my career in development cooperation as a science teacher in Zambia. After return to the Netherlands and a number of years as a physics teacher I returned for 8 years to Africa as coordinator in a science teacher in-service development project based in the National University of Lesotho. I then worked for 4 years in a similar project at Chancellor College in Malawi. In 1998 I joined the University of Limpopo in South Africa for a year, to set up a computer laboratory for learning science and ICT skills. In between the assignments in Africa I was based at CIS in Amsterdam and involved in project management and consultancy work in science teacher development and application of ICT in teaching and learning. In this position I visited projects in Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Mozambique, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Bolivia. Recently my work is mainly focussed in Ethiopia on academic development and quality assurance, in Ghana on physics teacher education, in Zambia on the application of ICT in university libraries and in Ethiopia, Vietnam, Zambia, and Palestine on e-learning in universities using Moodle.
